How to turn off the default Transparency window setting in Windows 7

Have you ever wondered how to turn off the transparent title bar in Windows 7? The title bar in application windows takes on a transparent appearance by default in Windows 7.   This means that desktop shortcuts and other application title bars are partially visible in the current window’s title bar – making them harder to read, especially if you have a brightly coloured or dark desktop background.

If you find this distracting, you can follow the steps below to turn off the transparency setting.  You can also choose a favourite window colour from here too.

  1. Right click the desktop
  2. Select Personalize (menu)
    Personalize Menu
  3. Select Window Colour (hyperlink)
    Window Colour
  4. Select Enable transparency (check box)
    Enable Transparency
  5. Select Save Changes (button)
  6. Select X (button) to close the window

The title bars will now no longer be transparent, making them much easier to read.
